You know what pairs well with great Thai food? Coconut ice cream. That’s what Mike and Toa Green thought about back in 2011, as owners of Thai Orchid Cafe. On a whim, they decided to purchase a 2-quart Cuisinart on Amazon and started making ice cream.
The coconut ice cream was a hit, so they started making other flavors—strawberry, sweet potato pie—all with local ingredients. And then they noticed that some customers were coming by Thai Orchid Cafe to buy ice cream…even when they didn’t order any Thai food. So they officially launched Crank & Boom ice cream in 2013 at Thursday Night Live.
From there things really started uh, churning, you might say. They began serving Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream at mobile events—festivals, weddings, parties and schools—and selling to restaurants. The company grew organically, based on customer demand for an ice cream like no other. When customers at mobile events kept asking where the shop was, Mike and Toa decided to make it a reality: The Crank & Boom ice cream lounge officially opened in June 2015. Crank & Boom is now sold with 40+ retail partners, served at over 100 events each summer and will open the second retail location at the Summit at Fritz Farm in Spring 2017. Things are booming!
Here’s the cold, hard, creamy delicious truth: we’re obsessed with ice cream. Not just any ice cream, but the kind made from only the best local, all-natural ingredients. Ingredients like 100% Kentucky dairy from JD Country Milk and blackberries and strawberries from your neighbor’s farms.
Our sauces and waffle cones are made in house, from scratch (except the sprinkles and the gummy worms). And all our ice creams, except those that include baked goods, are also egg free and gluten free, and contain no artificial sweeteners or flavorings.
We do this because we know the highest quality ingredients make the best ice cream. Our ice cream and desserts are chef crafted—which is just a fancy way of saying we like to play with our food to create melt-in-your-mouth flavor combinations. Did we mention we’re obsessed?
